Victorian School Day - May 2022
The children started off their Victorian School Day by lining up in girls and boys. They each paid a penny to attend school. First of all, we went to the hall for our writing lesson with Mr Milne. When we got an answer wrong, we had to wear a dunce hat! After this, we looked at a range of different artefacts and guessed what they were. The children then listened carefully and participated in a Victorian drill. We thoroughly enjoyed playing a range of Victorian playground games: tug of war, blind man's bluff, skipping, skittles, hopscotch and hoop and stick. To finish the day, we practised a song from Oliver Twist.
Tyntesfield - May 2022
Year 1 and 2 had a fantastic trip to Tyntesfield, we stepped back in time to learn more about the Victorians. The children dressed up and acted as scullery maids and butlers, learning about their daily roles. We also enjoyed exploring the various rooms and artefacts.
Explorer Dome - April 2022
Year 1 had an exciting visit from the Explorer Dome this week and took part in a light and dark workshop. We thought about different light sources and electricity. The children particularly enjoyed making their own shadow puppets!
Life Cycles - April 2022
Year 1 have been fascinated watching the life cycle of a frog and butterfly over the past few weeks. We have made observations, noticed many changes and enjoyed looking after them. The children said good bye to our butterflies this afternoon but we await for our tadpoles to change into frogs.

November 2021 - we will remember...
Autumn Welly Walk - October 2021
We walked a fantastic 10,000 steps this morning whilst searching for signs of Autumn. We found autumn leaves, berries, bare trees, squirrels and fungi. We enjoyed a well earned hot chocolate this afternoon!
Year 1 went on a trip around the world in Geography this week! We boarded the plane and visited each of the seven continents, observing the different climates, landmarks and animals.
The children have made a fantastic start to Year 1!
Over the past two weeks, we have been exploring 'Elmer' by David McKee. The children have recited and sequenced the story, crafted their very own Elmer's, baked and decorated Elmer biscuits, as well as creating colour poems.
Autumn Term Topic
Make your Mark!
The school day starts at 8.50am and finishes at 15:15pm.
Please let the school office know if your child is unable to attend school and the reason why.
Please ensure your child is wearing warm clothes and sensible footwear. The classrooms can be cold as we keep windows and doors open for ventilation.
Phonics and Reading Schemes
At Worle Village, we use the Letters and Sounds program, supported by the use of Jolly Phonics kinaesthetic actions as a basis for the planning of our high quality, systematic phonics programme. Children begin their phonics journey in the first term of Reception and children make rapid progress in their reading journey.
As children move through the early stages of acquiring phonics, they practice by reading phonetically decodable texts which are very closely matched to a child’s current phonics phase so that each child can achieve success in their reading.
Once children have a secure knowledge of letter/sound correspondences and can blend words confidently, they access our book banded reading scheme which has a wide variety of books accessible for children as they develop through fluency and maturity. This is designed to give children experience of a variety of reading genres. There are fiction and non-fiction books within each level.
All children are encouraged to select books from the classroom, library or home to share with their parents to encourage a love of reading.
The school has high expectations for pupils to read at home. We ask that a child reads at home a .
Please bring book bags in daily as we will read with your child at any given opportunity. Your child's books will be changed once per week, the day will vary dependent on which group your child is in:
Turtles - Monday
Seahorses - Tuesday
Jellyfishes - Wednesday
Dolphins - Friday
In addition, children can access Reading Eggs, an online reading program, at home or in school. Please see your class teacher for login details.
We have at least two PE lessons per week, on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child's kit is clearly labelled and in school at all times to enable us to be flexible.
We do PE in all types of weather so please ensure your child has suitable PE kit. In the Summer months we recommend shorts and t-shirt and in the winter long trousers with t-shirt and hoodie. Trainers or daps should be worn. An example of our kit, which can be purchased from NK Sports, is above or alternatively children can wear a plain white t-shirt and black shorts.
As part of Skip 2 B Fit, we are skipping for 2 minutes every day! We are also running a mile around the playground each day, to travel around the world.
