Mathematics

At Worle Village Primary School, mathematics is a central pillar of our curriculum, recognising the importance of early mathematical understanding as a strong predictor of future educational success. From the Early Years onwards, pupils are supported to develop a deep and secure understanding of number, geometry, and measure through a teaching-for-mastery approach.

Teaching is structured around the five key principles of mastery: coherence, representation and structure, mathematical thinking, fluency, and variation. This ensures that pupils build understanding step by step and are able to reason, problem-solve, and apply their learning with confidence.
