Reading at Our School
At our school, we believe that reading is a vital life skill and a gateway to learning, confidence and independence. As a supportive and inclusive school community, we work hard to nurture a genuine love of reading in every child, whatever their starting point.
Children are encouraged to explore a wide range of genres, authors and text types, and as their fluency and understanding grow, they are supported to choose books independently from our well-stocked library. This helps children to develop confidence, curiosity and enjoyment as readers.
We recognise the importance of reading together. Even in Year 6, we continue to encourage children to read aloud to an adult at home. Sharing books in this way supports fluency and expression, and creates valuable opportunities for reassurance, encouragement and discussion.
Reading is embedded throughout the school day. Children take part in whole-class reading sessions, alongside guided reading in smaller groups, where they receive focused support and encouragement to deepen their understanding.

Puffin Class School Day
Our school day starts at 8:40am.
Please make sure your child brings a coat every day, as we enjoy getting outside for physical activity daily – whatever the weather!
In Year 6, children are asked to come to school wearing their PE kits.
We take part in PE in all kinds of weather, so please ensure your child has suitable PE clothing to stay comfortable and active.
