Starting Arrangements

At Worle Village Primary School, we want every child to settle into school life happily and with confidence. To support this, your child will attend on a part-time basis to begin with. We know this can be tricky to arrange around family and work commitments, and we really do appreciate your flexibility. Experience has shown us that a gradual start gives children the very best chance to adjust to their new setting and routines, and it has consistently led to smooth, positive transitions into full-time school. Please see the timetable below, which applies to all children:

*Full-time attendance is dependent on both the Head of School and class teacher’s assessment of a child’s happy and successful settling into school and their ability to cope with full-time education.

Please line up in the playground at the EYFS gate (furthest across the playground) at 9.00am.

Pick up time at 12.00pm will be from the very bottom gates on Hill Rd. Please line up at the bottom gate and your child will be lining up for you here ready.

When picking up at 3:15pm, please come to the main playground

Uniform

School Uniform - You can find our full Uniform Policy here: Uniform Policy

  • Grey or black skirt, shorts or trousers (or a blue gingham dress for the warmer months)

Free School Meals

If your family receives certain benefits, please register your child for free school meals. Even if you're not sure whether you qualify, it's well worth checking.

Every child registered brings vital extra funding into our school. This money helps us provide additional support, resources and opportunities for all our children, so a few minutes of your time genuinely makes a big difference.

How to apply:

  1. Go to the North Somerset Council free school meals page: NSC FSM Page
  2. Complete the short online form
  3. You'll get an instant result on screen.
  4. If you're eligible, North Somerset Council will let us know directly — but do feel free to forward your confirmation to the school office too.

When to apply:

If your child is starting school in September, please apply during the summer holidays NOT before. Applications made too early are automatically deleted by the system, so apply in August.

Universal Free School Meals

Regardless of the above, all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 automatically receive a free school lunch every day.

Aspens

School meals are provided by our catering company, Aspens, and are ordered through an easy online system. Parents and carers are responsible for placing their child's meal orders.

We encourage all children to enjoy a school meal using their universal free school meal or free school meal entitlement, but a packed lunch from home is always welcome too, if you prefer. The ordering system lets you browse the menu and choose day by day, so your child can have a school meal on the days the menu takes their fancy and a packed lunch on the others.

Your login details will be sent to you before your child starts school, so you'll have plenty of time to get set up and place your first orders.

Communication

We use a number of platforms to communicate with parents/carers in the fastest and most efficient way, on top of other daily forms of communication:

SchoolPing

This is an online platform with a dedicated app, which we use to send messages, letters and forms and for the booking of parents' evenings. The best way to use SchoolPing is to download the app. Login details will be provided once your child starts school.

School Gateway

This is an online platform, with a dedicated app, which we use to take payments and bookings for school trips, events and clubs such as Breakfast and Wraparound Care. The best way to use School Gateway is to download the app. Login details will be provided once your child starts school.

Facebook

The school has its own dedicated Facebook page for sharing news, updates and notices. You can follow us Facebook Page

Wraparound Care

We are proud to offer full wraparound care provision with a paid Breakfast Club from 7.45am, a free Breakfast Club option from 8.10am and After School Club until 5.30pm. Bookings are self-managed by parents/carers using our School Gateway app. We also accept a range of childcare vouchers, including the Government's Childcare Choices scheme as payment. Please contact the school for more information about this process.

Your child will be able to access wraparound care once they have started school full-time and with agreement from the class Teacher and Head of School.
