PE, Sport Premium and Swimming

PE and Sport Premium

School Sports funding is specific money put into primary schools by the government to improve PE for every child.  The premium must be spent by schools on making additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport for the benefit of all pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.

What does it mean for Worle Village Primary?

For us it means that we have £17,620 of funding for the academic year 2025/26.

We work hard to provide excellent PE experiences throughout the school by ensuring there is two hours of timetabled PE a week per child. We are raising the profile of PE, increasing participation in competitive 'inter' (between schools) and 'intra' (between each other) school sport.

Swimming and Water Safety

Swimming is a vital life skill and we want every child to feel safe, confident and capable in and around water.

Children are taught swimming and water safety during Year 3 in the summer term. To make sure no one misses out, we also offer further opportunities in Years 5 and 6 for any children who need extra practice or confidence-building, so that everyone has the best chance of meeting the expected standard by the time they leave us.

Year 6 Swimming Outcomes (last academic year)

By the end of Year 6, pupils are expected to be able to:

  • Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres: 100%

  • Use a range of strokes effectively: 100%

  • Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations: 100%

We’re proud of these outcomes, and we’ll continue to promote swimming for all children — especially supporting anyone who needs a little more time, practice or reassurance in the water.

This information is reviewed and updated annually and published by 31 July each year.
