PE, Sport and Swimming

The PE curriculum at WVPS operates on a philosophy that ensures inclusion for all, where children participate and develop their own physical skills and strategies according to their own abilities. We aim to develop the whole child through our PE curriculum ensuring our lessons develop their physical, personal, creative, social and cognitive skills as well as their health & fitness.

As a school we aim for our children to achieve a desire to be physically active throughout life by developing a love of activity that keeps them fit and healthy.  We offer choice and variation, our curriculum is progressive and sequential and we promote a healthy lifestyle and strive for PE to be enjoyable.  At WVPS we are aware that the positive impact PE can have on mental well-being is phenomenal.  Experts say taking part in physical activities allow children to have a better outlook on life by building confidence, managing anxiety, depression, increasing self-esteem and cognitive skills.

Swimming

Our current Swimming Policy is to provide swimming lessons to all our Year 3 pupils during the summer term.

We are keen to promote swimming for all our children and endeavour to provide opportunity for non-swimmers to gain more experience. We offer the opportunity again in Years 5 and 6 to ensure all children leave our school able to swim.

90% of our Y6 pupils can comfortably swim 25m.

90% of our Y6 Pupils can use a range of strokes effectively.

90% of our Y6 Pupils can perform self-rescue in different water-based situations.

We believe swimming is a hugely important life skill, which is why we aim to ensure that all children leave us with the opportunity to learn water safety and gain confidence in the water whilst learning to swim.
